Moving In: Luminosa Estate in Santa Barbara, CA

blog-about-design-moving-in (ABOVE) The front of this house has a very grand look. A stately gate, and large fountain greet you as you drive up. On either sides of the fountain are the front stairs. The roof is tile and the front facade is stucco with a gorgeous stone entry. Symmetry plays a key role in the design of the home.

Let’s take a little trip, a little trip to the Luminosa Estate is Santa Barbara, California. This gorgeous five bedroom home located in the Hope Valley area of Santa Barbara, has an “Eclectic Spanish-style” vibe, if I could best describe it. The stucco exterior and tile roof are very Spanish-style, however, the stone entry and intricate tile work on the fountain give it a slightly Moroccan vibe. The back of the house too has an eclectic vibe with a large stripe canopy, shielding the patio in style from the sun.

When I thought of how to design this home, (once I move in of course!) I choose to bring that eclectic vibe to the furnishings. Something colorful, but refined and sophisticated. The Peter Pap rug that is featured below is the perfect piece to ‘sum’ up the house. It’s detailed and colorful, but nonetheless super classy. With a home this large, bringing texture in, is important, you don’t want it to feel like a public space. What do you think of the Luminosa Estate? Would you “Move In“? How would you furnish it?
